We are so pleased to welcome our first 5 scholars to Lodi! Here’s their schedule below. As you can see they’ve been really busy getting to know the LAIC winery owners, winemakers, vineyard owners and key personnel.

Sunday, June 6

Afternoon arrival and Airbnb check-in

5:30 PM — Pick-up at Airbnb

6:00 PM — Winemaker/grower reception and vineyard dinner at Acquiesce Vineyards (attended by all LAIC members; hosted by Acquiesce owner/growers Sue and Rod Tipton)

Monday, June 7

7:00 AM — Breakfast at your leisure at Airbnb

8:15 AM — Pick-up at Airbnb

8:45-10:00 AM — Introduction to old vine and trellised winegrowing at Bechthold and Phillips Farms

10:15-11:15 AM — Old vine and certified organic winegrowing at ZinStar Vineyard (The Lucas Winery owner/grower/winemakers Heather Pyle and David Lucas)

11:30 AM-12:30 PM — Lunch and tasting at The Lucas Winery

12:45-1:45 PM — Discussion of “Meeting today’s challenges as a Lodi farmer” at Heritage Oak Winery (Heritage Oak owner/grower/winemaker Tom Hoffman)

2:00-3:30 PM — Introduction to winemaking at Bokisch Vineyards (Elyse Perry, Bokisch winemaker)

4:00-5:30 PM — Afternoon break at Airbnb

5:45 PM — Pick-up at Airbnb

6:00-8:00 PM — Spanish style dinner at Bokisch Vineyards’ Las Cerezas Vineyard (hosted by Bokisch owner/growers Markus and Liz Bokisch)

Tuesday, June 8

8:45-10:45 AM — Leaf pulling and sustainability in vineyards (KG Vineyard Management’s Ben and Madelyhn Kolber and Lodi Winegrape Commission sustainable winegrowing director Stephanie Bolton)

11:00 AM- 11:45 PM — Talk about the financial side of the wine industry (Terry Moore, Klinker Brick CFO)

12:00-1:15 PM — Lunch with Association of African-American Vintners guest speaker (Phil Long, AAAV president and founder/winemaker of Longevity Wines) at Klinker Brick Winery

1:30-3:30 PM — “Cellar rat” work at Klinker Brick Winery (Klinker Brick winemaker Joseph Smith and assistant winemaker Chris Rivera)

4:00-5:30 PM — Afternoon break at Airbnb

5:45 PM — Pick-up at Airbnb

6:00-8:00 PM — Al fresco farm-to-table dinner at PRIE Winery (hosted by PRIE owner/grower/winemakers John and Lisa Gash)

1:15-3:30 PM — Sales and marketing workshop at Michael David Winery (Jeremy Wine Co., PRIE Winery, and Michael David Winery team)
